Pillar Candles
Pillar Candles
Have you ever lit some pillar candles only to later on find that there were some unsightly burn marks on the sides? Have you noticed that the wax burns unevenly and sometimes the liquefied paraffin and other waxes actually are contained in liquid form within the center of a candle only to spill as you move it? Do the many smoke marks that are on the insides of your pillar candles bother you, but you are unsure of how to avoid getting them when you light the candles? If you have run into these problems with your fragranced pillar candles that you love to burn for the holidays, or the display pieces that were proudly put on view in your pillar candle holder, then you know that there must be a better way to care for your candles. While it is true that some cheap wholesale pillar candles are made of inferior waxes that encourage uneven burning and even the formation of smoke rings, by and large good quality pillar candles, such as beeswax pillar candles, may still fall victim to these unsightly problems. The root cause lies in the handling, use and care of the pillar candle by an owner who is not familiar with the fine points of burning one of these great candles.
For example, your pillar candle holders need to be even and not have bumps or other properties that would keep the candle from standing up straight. If there is even a slight angle, you will find that your pillar candles will not burn properly. Similarly, if you notice that in spite of your best efforts your square pillar candles do not seem to burn evenly, check out the surroundings to see if perhaps they are being affected by a draft or other forceful airflow that affects the way the wick holds the flame.
When you purchase pillar candles wholesale or from a reseller, you will note that your pillar candles’ wicks are not necessarily trimmed. While it is tempting to just let it burn off, the correct way of handling the candle is to trim the wick not just before the first burn, but actually prior to any subsequent burn as well. Ideally, your wick will be about 3/8 of an inch tall. As you burn your candle, keep in mind that it needs a certain amount of time to dissolve some of the surrounding wax. Thus, a very thick candle will do so more slowly than a smaller one. While in the past it was said that discount pillar candles burn faster than the wholesale unscented pillar candles that were all the rage, the truth of the matter remains that quality is by and large comparable today and thus you will need to allow your candle enough time to burn. Generally speaking, your unscented pillar candles should burn for about an hour for every inch in width. Last but not least is the art of blowing out the candle before moving the candle holder. Pillar candles do not like being moved – whether you have a wholesale pillar candle that is used for aromatherapy or wholesale unscented white pillar candles – while lit and in order to put out the flame you need to snuff out, not blow out, the candle!
