Homemade Candles

Homemade Candles

There are numerous recipes on the Internet for home made scented candles. As a matter of fact, homemade candles have become quite a cottage industry, and the many methods that are offered for making homemade scented candles, selecting a spectacular homemade candle fragrance, as well as the integral aspects for making homemade gel candles recipes are often discussed on websites and forums hosted by either hobbyists or professional chandlers. While the latest rage are homemade soy candles – when you follow the proper recipe, homemade soy candles are a wonderful way of eliminating the use of paraffin wax – it is interesting to note that only a few recipes discuss how to make homemade candles using beeswax.

Perhaps the general public likes scented candles home made, but is less apt to attempt the production of homemade candles featuring nothing but the humble product of the hive, or maybe it is the mistaken notion that homemade candles rarely if ever turn out as good as those which are commercially available. While it is true that homemade candles at times may lag behind the competition of the mass producing factory, this does not necessarily hold true for homemade candles fashioned from beeswax.

All you need are some sheets of beeswax, shapes, wicking material, and a hair dryer. Gently heat your wax – do not melt it – using the hair dryer until it is pliable. You can then go ahead and roll up the sheet of beeswax until it has the thickness you desire. The wick may be placed on the inside edge that is rolled up first and this will present the middle of the candle. Cut the sheet of wax for tapered candles. If you prefer to use shapes, simply cut out a number of shapes using your cookie cutters and then stack them one on top of the other to make a sizeable candle. The wick may be put in the middle of the stack.

Of course, if these beeswax candles are too easy for you, you can always go back to the homemade aromatherapy candle made from paraffin, the homemade grapefruit and rosemary soy candles, or simply make homemade candle scents by mixing and matching essential oils. A homemade candle is a wonderful gift and there is something special about the homemade candle scents that emanate from genuine beeswax candles and also homemade gel candles. Yet nothing is as desirable as the wonderful sweet smell of beeswax and the love that went into creating that perfect candle.
