Candle Wicks

Candle Wicks

While a lot of time and discussion goes into the making of candles, far fewer words are said about the candle wicks. Yet when shopping for wick materials, you soon learn about CD, KST, and PK candle wicks that each feature different properties as they relate to the burning of the candle. While it may be tempting to use the best waxes and essential oils available to make your candles, if you do not understand how do candle wicks burn, you may end up using materials for the wick that are entirely unsuitable. In addition to the foregoing, if you have ever seen a 3 wick candle holder, you know that candle wick making supplies must be considered with care to ensure an even burning of the candle.

While the purchases of wholesale three wick candles make it look easy, the fact that a 3 wick candle burns perfectly even is due to the use of appropriately treated candle wicks. Generally speaking, only specially treated candle wicks may be used for the sake of candle burning. Other materials, such as thin roping or cloth need to be avoided because their burn cannot be controlled adequately, nor can smoke be reduced to such an extent that it will not affect the overall enjoyment of the candle. Wicks are actually liberally coated with the waxy materials that candles are made of simply to provide the fire with a flammable product.

Candle wicks are usually made from cotton which is tightly braided to provide a solid surface on which the flame may burn. It is interesting to note that candle wick material itself is slathered with a flame retardant so as to slow down the consumption of the material by the fire. You may find scenting wicks for rolled beeswax candles, but by and large candle wicks for rolled beeswax candles are not coated with any aromatics so as to preserve the olfactory integrity of the melting wax.

When it comes to purchasing wholesale wick candles, you may sometimes find ads for blue wick soy candles and other odd sounding differentiations. It is important to note that by and large wicks that are dyed are not necessarily better than those that remain pure. Similarly, some claim that certain candle holders should be avoided to prevent damage of the wicking material. When it comes to a candle holder, wick damage is usually not noted unless the candle is impaled on the holder and the wick’s position is compromised.
