Aromatherapy
Ask ten people what they think aromatherapy is all about, and you will probably find nine who will think of people sitting around in a room laden with incense, sniffing aromatherapy oils, and listening to odd sounding Eastern music. While the stereotype is perhaps sometimes correct, especially when dealing with those who use the science of aromatherapy for their own illicit gains, the history of aromatherapy reveals that it is not a new undertaken, but instead has been around since the roaring 1920s when one René Gattefossé researched aromatherapy herbs and their medicinal impact on the human body. While this may have begun the modernization of aromatherapy products and even started a discussion of aromatherapy benefits in modern society that is still going on to this day, the idea of using plants for healing by both applying them as salves as well as inhaling their vapors is not new.
Since time immemorial man and women have experimented with aromatherapy in a number of different settings. When looking at aromatherapy information on the Internet and in the holistic section of a variety of bookstores, you will find that much is written about aromatherapy carrier oils, the storage of wholesale aromatherapy products, and of course the notion that aromatherapy air freshener products should not come from the household aisle of the grocery store.
Yet what is sometimes not so easy to understand are the many benefits that are associated with aromatherapy. Depending on the aromatherapy blend, the scents may be used to soothe you, help you with sleep and simple relaxation, thereby being first and foremost in the treatment of anxiety disorders and other nervous problems. In addition to the foregoing, aromatherapy oils are known to trigger emotional responses thus aiding those who might be in need of getting in touch with their feelings and also overcoming grief. Quite often an aromatherapy oil burner is used to gently warm the oils or actually burn whole leaf products that have not been reduced to essential oils yet.
If you are not so sure about burning any products in your home or if you do not feel that warmed oils are your way to go, then perhaps you might want to ingest the essential oils which are used in aromatherapy. You may find specially formulated capsules at health food stores or find tinctures that let you add drops of the products to your salads or juice drinks. In addition to the foregoing, a favorite of aficionados are teas which come in a wide variety of products.
